Turmoil & Heartaches Worldwide – What's Happening!

Turmoil & Heartaches Worldwide – What's Happening!
Japan's earthquake and Tsunami is the world's costliest natural disaster.  Residents were warned not to give babies tap water because of radiation leaking from the nuclear plants and produce is also affected from these areas.  Also in Tokyo there has been some increased radiation registered.
Unrest in the Middle East:  There was a bus bombing in Jerusalem Wednesday just a few hours after militants vowed revenge for deadly Israeli raids on Gaza.
While in Libya just the U.S. role in Libya costs hundreds of millions so far in an international assault to destroy Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's air defenses and save rebels from likely defeat, Gaddafi's tanks and forces resume their attack on the rebel-held town of Misrata, moving back onto the offensive just hours after Western strikes silenced their guns.
Then In Syria president Bashar al-Assad made an unprecedented ledge of greater freedom and more prosperity to the Syrian people on Thursday as anger mounted following a crackdown on protesters that left at least 37 dead.
Thursday night in Myanmar there was a 6.8 - magnitude earthquake that struck in Northeast Myanmar shaking buildings as far away as Bangkok, Thailand.  One person was confirmed dead from the quake.
Hey! Do you think it could be the signs of the times?  Let's continue to pray for the safety of the Christians, Hope to flourish, that many would come to know the Lord at this time and ask ourselves what we can do to help.

Christmas News Letter: Haiti 2010 Teams - The Start of the Torbeck, Haiti and Orphanage Projects

We want to share with you our vision for a small rural village in southwestern Haiti.  This remote area north of Torbeck, about ten miles away from Les Cayes, has a church that has been taking care of twenty-six orphans.  The orphans attend the services and are growing spiritually. The church has a strong desire to be able to assist these orphans, an many others physically as well as educationally. Their desire to help the other orphans in the area is limited by their finances.
In the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Haiti, there was a great need for immediate assistance for the local people to purchase food and minor medical supplies.  With your help, we successfully sent funds at least twice to the local pastors for food supplies to help in the time of need for them and their congregation.   James 1:27  What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.

The overall vision we have at Youth Quests International is to provide enough help, assistance, support and education to help this community help themselves in the following ways:
  • assist the church and pastors
  • help provide self-sustaining agricultural projects
  • provide a safe and clean drinking water source
  • start building the first phase of the orphanage project
  • then move on to an educational center for school classes
  • vocational training
  • an educational center for the local villagers
In the information that follows, we will share with you the achievements and successes we have had this year in cooperation with your help, assistance and support.  After our initial preliminary trip, there were two teams that went to the village near Torbeck this year.

In preparation for the teams that would arrive, I and four other men flew to Haiti and spent between 3 to 5 days with the people.  It was our desire to assess the immediate needs of the local people and the minimal requirements and safety issues for the teams. Due to this visit, needed changes were made to the original plans that would better meet the immediate needs as well as fulfill requirements for the overall vision of the orphanage.

Prior to the first team’s arrival many building materials and tools were purchased in Haiti by a pastor with funds that were forwarded ahead for this purpose.  A generator was bought to use in the home where the teams will be staying, needs in the church, showing films for outreaches and the building projects. A laptop was provided for better communication and a camera to record progress on the project and with the orphans.

Team One
Project # 1: Major work on a home for future teams included cleaning tons of cement and debris from upstairs. Wiring lights in the house and cooking area provided longer hours for ministry. A well was dug by hand near this home and lined with cement for washing, bathing and laundry.  Because the home didn’t have a safe way for individuals to get to the second floor where larger teams would need the extra sleeping quarters, we built some cement stairs to the upper level of the home.

Project #2: Tin was bought for roofing the half of one of our host pastor’s home that did not have a roof.  David and Sheila were living with and helping orphans in this home.

Project #3: Ministry and evangelism opportunities took place through Vacation Bible school, children’s ministry and evening services.

Team Two
Project #1: The Jesus Film in Creole was shown in the evenings during special services. Tracts in Creole were distributed in churches and given to people as we walked around the village and local areas. Ministry was continued to the children.

Project # 2: The agriculture project was started and funds were provided to continue working on this poultry business project.  We are very excited that this is nearly completed because it will help support the orphanage, pastors and provide some food for them as well.  We will share with you the things that you may participate in for the success of this project later in this letter.

Both teams were given the opportunity to minister in other churches and in open air meetings in a couple of villages.  Many Haitian people were touched and ministered to through us with your help.

OpportunitiesNow with the holiday season fast approaching, we wanted to share with you the opportunity to share in the success and vision of these projects in Haiti by prayer,  physically going yourself or supporting these projects or someone who is able to go.  We will list the areas you may feel led to participate in and share the success of these projects.
  • Because of the tremendous rise in the cost of items and building materials in the aftermath of the earthquake and the desire to have the business start operations, you may help get the poultry business started by helping with the following items:
    • Between buying the 500 chicks, feed, antibiotics, feeders and the wire needed to complete the building there is a balance of about $2,400.00 left to purchase these items and have this valuable resource completed and in operation.
  • Drilling a deep water well and equipment for a potable water supply for the church and future orphanage (total $2200.00) *this would help prevent cholera outbreaks.
  • Repairs and enhancing the church facilities
  • The first phase of building an orphanage:
    • Raising funds to start building the initial phase of the orphanage, (Enough rooms for 40 children, a kitchen, laundry and bathing facilities and house-parent’s quarters. ($50,000.00)

To make a contribution to this project or others during this holiday season, giving thanks for what we have and sharing a gift to those less fortunate please go to Haitian Contributions or contact Youth Quests for more information, prayer and opportunities.  To mail us: 13835 N Tatum Blvd #146, Phoenix, AZ.  85032

Mat 25:34-40  Then the King will say to the people on his right, 'Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world.  I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.' The righteous will then answer him, 'When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink?  When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you?  When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?'  The King will reply, 'I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!'

We wanted to share with you the blessings resulting from the help you have given in supporting this ministry and the missionaries who went this year.
Php 1:3-7 I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you, always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy, for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ: even as it is right for me to be thus minded on behalf of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as, both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers with me of grace.

Southwest Haiti Misson Trips Near Les Cayes Are Available! ...

Youth Quests International - Haiti Updates
Sharing the blessings of your help in supporting this ministry and the missionaries who
went out this year.

The Haitian projects Youth Quests International is involved with, along with your support, have current needs and prayer requests.  We wanted to share with you the future plans for these projects in this area, as well as, what has been accomplished through your assistance and prayers.

The previous team had worked on some crucial improvements for the teams who will be doing follow up work on several projects. They were involved in ministry to the local people as well. The Haiti missions team that arrived in the village near Torbeck on July 18th greatly appreciated all the preparation done for them. This second team worked on building the poultry business that will be the first step for a sustainable agriculture project for this ministry.

Additionally, both teams conducted some special programs with biblical teaching for the children and teens of the area, evangelized and held special services in the evenings.  The second team had the privilege of showing the Jesus Film in Creole and handing out tracts to the local people wherever they went.  With your help, YQI bought a generator for the ministry that was a great benefit for the cooks, the church with their evening services, the housing for the teams and, of course the Jesus Film presentations in the evenings.

Project Updates and Prayer Requests
Will you pray about the following needs? The dollar amounts mentioned are still needed for the projects.)
For donations go to: Youth Quests' Hope For Haiti

Water Well
While working there, we were able to talk with some government officials about drilling a well in preparation for the orphanage we are planning on building.  Even though they said that they only drill on government or public lands, they agreed to drill the well for a very reasonable $2000.00.  We are praising the Lord for this opportunity to obtain a good source of water for the orphanage and ministry.  Pray for the project to progress, continued cooperation, the doors to stay open and the much needed funds.

Poultry Business
The aim of this business is to support and assist the pastors to be more self-sustaining in working with the local people, as well as,  generating income for the operation of the orphanage.  As of right now, we are currently $2000 short on funds to get this poultry business fully up and running complete with facilities, equipment, feed and chicks.

Improvements To Homes
The crucial improvements included cleaning cement rubble out of a house that will be used to house teams when they come to work in this area and hand digging a well for clean water.  We are blessed to be able to use this home when we bring teams to this small village area.

Materials were bought for a special project to help out a Pastor, his family and a couple of orphans that will be living with him.  With your help, YQI bought the tin roofing to cover the half of the house where they lived that didn’t have a roof on it.  This roof was put up in time for the rainy season and is a greatly appreciated addition.

Orphanage Projection
We are currently in contact with a Christian man who has been building several homes in Haiti in cooperation with the Haitian government.  He has agreed to build the Haitian orphanage in this area employing local people and using good materials for the low cost of $15 per square foot!  Our goal is to start with a 2000 square foot facility that would only cost $30,000; then with the water available, the orphanage would be in a good position to be a blessing to many in that area.

Adoption in Progress
The orphans need hope and a future; currently it is our
opportunity to help an orphan girl be adopted into a Christian family in the USA.  The lawyers in the country have been working on the adoption. The family needs  another $3,000.00 to complete the adoption process.

Thank you so much for your interest in missions and the
assistance you have already given.  May the Lord richly bless you!

Youth Quests International Domestic Missions Trip to the San Carlos Indian Reservation

Cutter Church, the San Carlos Indian Reservation project near Globe, AZ.;
current needs, prayer requests, as well as, future plans!

The team of 33, mostly teens, from Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in Texas, joining Youth Quests International, worked on some crucial and much needed improvements.  The church had leaks in the roof resulting in damage to the ceiling within the church. Funds raised for the project along with the church's finances and tribal donations worked together to purchase materials for the group to do the renovation. The group tore, literally, into the work with dust and debris flying.  Then putting a new roof on the church and new sheet rock on the interior ceiling in four days.  Some of the men of the church came alongside and helped with putting up and taping the ceiling, while the women brought water, ice and food for lunch for the whole group.

While we were there on Wednesday evening, we held a special service and ministered to the local people.   It was unique due to the fact of the inside of the church still a work in progress, we held the meeting outside in the parking lot! We have been asked to come back soon and  hold special meetings and youth rallies for three days.

Project Updates and Prayer Requests
(Will you pray about the following needs? The dollar amounts mentioned are still needed for the projects.) For donations go to:

Three Day Youth Rally and Special Meetings
The Pastor, Sister Fay talked about the need for ministering to the young people there on the reservation. She would like to hold a three day youth rally to help reach them. The testimonies given by the young people on Wednesday gave hope to many who attended the service. While we were there, we saw the need for ministry to the youth of the area.  It's our desire to be able to return and hold the special meetings. Please pray with us regarding the doors to open and the funds to come in for this need.

There are other improvements needed for the Cutter church. The heart of the Pastor is to fix the pulpit area and bathroom. Currently, the bathroom is in the front of the church  to the left of the pulpit. Her desire is to move it to a different location. In checking the building, the whole North side of the church needs siding as the plywood needs to be completely replaced. Please be in prayer with us for a work/ministry group for 2011!

2010 Project Testimonial
"I did get to see the church from a distance and that was it but from what I had seen the roofing looked really nice.  My sisters were telling me of how they would see a bus passing them in the morning and they would say..."there goes sisters project".  I also did get to talk with Carol Lewis the Co Pastor and she was all excited about everything.  I am so happy for Sister Faye and her congregation cause I am sure they have built lasting relationships with each other.  My aunt Margaret also told me that she got to meet and talk with you.  She had complimented you and your husband with high regards and she enjoyed everything." (From: Tammy Hill)

2010 Project Results
A call from Sis Fay from the Cutter church:
She said previously the church members were having a hard time getting together on getting the roof fixed. It had been fixed by someone 3 years ago who had put new roofing on over the old. It still leaked and had ruined the ceiling in many places. The people were also having a hard time raising money for the new roof as well. There was division among the people concerning how to take care of the problem. When we came, the people dropped their personal views on how to do things and became unified in helping up get it done. They have since began to work on getting the church done with better lighting, etc. She said we provided the encouragement they needed to work together on the church.

She said she needed the Word of encouragement that John gave her and has been getting rest in body and spirit.
