Costa Rican Rescue Home Mission - Missionary Opening

Costa Rican Rescue Home Mission - Missionary Opening
NEEDED!

A heart for the hurting and those in need of intervention and/or assistance in their next step in life!

Palmas de Mamre is affiliated with a new project, a hostel rescue mission located in Northern Costa Rica. We need a director for this ministry specifically aimed at women and children escaping from life threatening situations in need of intervention and shelter.  It is not a shelter for problem adolescents, or rehabilitation from drugs and/or alcohol.

There is a vital need for someone, preferably a well-grounded couple, who can counsel, teach Bible Studies, and help the refugees get training in skills/vocational work experience. The goal being helping them make a living that is relevant to their location, availability of resources and avenues to be utilized.  Of course, these missionaries would need to have at least a good understanding of Spanish.

The project is ready now that the physical structures have been completed. This is a nice home, for the area, with a separate wood stove kitchen outside, tree house, and a separate home for the director/administrator."

If you are interested, please contact Ana Moshenek at palmasmission@gmail.com   Ana is often without Internet access for a week or two at a time, so please be patient waiting for response. Or you may contact John at john@youthquests.com

Missionary Conduct and Training Part 1 of 3

Missionary Attitude, Evangelism and Conduct
(Part 1 of 3)
(Learning some very important lessons from two missionaries)

Respect and Adapt to THEIR Culture
To start this portion of the study, I wanted to give you a little information about two very successful missionaries, J Hudson Taylor (Founder of China Inland Mission) and the Apostle Paul.

Hudson Taylor’s preparation and attitude:  (some excerpts taken from http://www.wholesomewords.org)

Hudson Taylor heard his call from the Lord to go to China at a young age.  He decided to learn what he could about China and its culture and to prepare himself for the Chinese mission field.  Who was Hudson Taylor? “J. Hudson Taylor (1832-1905) was an English missionary to China. Founded the China Inland Mission which at his death included 205 mission stations with over 800 missionaries, and 125,000 Chinese Christians.”

In these three years of preparation for the mission field:
  • He eat simple foods that were mainly rice, oatmeal and brown bread.

  • He moved to a very poor area of the city: “a very undesirable portion of the city of Hull. Two rows of poor little cottages faced each other, and between them was a ditch where rubbish was thrown. The neighborhood was called "Drainside." When the tide rose high enough the rubbish was carried away. Unattractive as this was, Hudson Taylor selected one of these cottages as his dwelling-place. A room less than twelve feet square was his, while his landlady, Mrs. Finch, with her children, occupied the upstairs room and the kitchen.”

  • He worked hard and ministered to people: “At the close of his day's work he would take his lonely walk to his comfortless room, and on Sundays he visited the sick and helped the poor. It was not the kind of life one would be apt to choose, but God's blessing was upon him, and that is more than all the world has to offer.”

  • He did what he could to learn skills that would be helpful on the mission field and the language in preparation for China.

  • Faith, the most important lesson he knew he must learn: “There was one lesson that young Mr. Taylor knew he must learn, if he wanted to be a successful missionary in China, and that was the lesson of faith. He knew there would be many times in that far-away country when he would have no one to depend upon but God, and he must know how to get his prayers through and receive an answer. He wanted to know how to "move man, through God, by prayer alone."”

Once in China, Mr Taylor set out to the work he was called to do:
  • He used his learned skills to help others, ministering to their bodies and then ministering to their souls.  “As he ministered to the needs of their bodies, he told them of the cure for sin-sick souls. A school for boys and girls was started and Mr. Taylor was happy. There were difficulties too, but Taylor had fitted himself for hard things by the rugged life he had lived before leaving England.”
  • He chose to adapt to their culture and dress.  “For some time he considered the question of adopting Chinese dress, and finally decided to do so, believing he could accomplish more for the Lord in that way. He had his head shaved, leaving a little hair which would grow into a Chinese cue [hair tied at the back of the head in a braid], and with baggy trousers, white calico socks, satin shoes, and to complete the costume, a loose silk gown with wide sleeves, he attracted less attention, and won the hearts of the natives as he could not do when in English dress.”

You may ask yourself, “Where did Mr. Taylor come up with his plan of action: what he should do and the faith to do it?”  I believe he read about the first missionary in the Word of God.

Paul’s Use of His Freedom: (The first missionary).
Paul chose to adapt to the cultures and customs of each people group he ministered to.
1 Cor. 9:19-23 “Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.  When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.  When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.  When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.  I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”

Paul became all things to all people groups.  He did not try to walk in superiority or the attitude that his way or culture was better then theirs.  He adapted to their ways without sinning.  He did not use his freedoms in Christ to do what he wanted, but instead to become all things to all people in order that they may share Christ.

It is our job as missionaries to learn their culture and beliefs.  Take the time to find out as much as you can about the specific people group, culture and primary religious beliefs of those to whom you will be ministering.  Each culture has its own sense of what is acceptable and what is not; what is rude and what is not.  For instance, in Thailand, it is not proper to touch a person of opposite sex in public even if you are married.  Doing so would place the woman in the category of a prostitute and the man as someone who is associating with this type of person.  Then in China it is not proper to look someone directly into the eyes for a length of time.  Some eastern cultures believe if is an insult to touch their heads with your hands or point with your foot.  So you see, it is our work to learn and put into practice their culture’s dos and don’ts, not to try to change them or make them feel inferior or even possibly insult them.  It is their country and culture, not ours.

Respect and Adapt:
Hudson Taylor and the Apostle Paul respected and adapted to the new culture, choosing to become like one of the people they ministered to and adopted their dress, language and culture.  They chose to become one of them in order to share Christ with them without sinning.  Within every culture on the earth, there are things that are not pleasing to the the Lord and we need to stay sinless, keeping our testimony and lives in unity with the Word of God, without offending.

The Ultimate Youth Missions Promoting Cultural, Social, Spiritual and Educational Growth

Mission trips are no longer limited to Christian neighborhoods only. Since the travel options are aplenty, anyone with a fascination to serve his or her neighborhood or overseas can do so by taking Christian mission trips easily. Due to improved worldwide communication and discount youth or group missions travel cost, increasingly more number of youth sharing a common faith tend to be stepping forward to give a helping hand to socially ostracized or needy people. These youth with a mission usually consider extensive outings and market quality teen missions adventure services in various countries which enhance interpersonal, cultural and educational growth. Thus youth missions are perfect for those seeking a special connection with fellow missionaries and people of a different culture, as well as to broaden their work worldwide and encounters through their journeys.

Youth mission trips can last from the single day to several months as well as cater to a myriad of needs and preferences whatever the size of the actual teen's group. To assist the less fortunate and sharing the love of the Lord are the main objectives associated with such trips. The first timers in youth missions can promote the help of local people and churches to share the focused mission's trip to have God's benefits and blessings in everything they do to serve socially unreachable individuals.

Youth Quests is definitely an international missions trip specialist arranging national as well as overseas long term and short term mission trips for teens, mission trips for college students, religious leaders, families, groups and youth. The Youth Quests' program primarily focuses on lending a helping hand in order to help the needy, and to get that sense of satisfaction just by viewing them smiling. Our experience within national and foreign quests is responsible for touching many lives, including the short term missionaries as well.

Haitian Missions Trip 2011 Updates - Group Going In June

Haiti is still very much in need of assistance and a helping hand.  We are planning a team right now to go to southwestern Haiti this coming June of 2011.  There is much to do in various areas such as finishing the agricultural project that is almost completed, get a well drilled for a good water source, and starting the process of building the orphanage and building the funding sources and backing to sustain this for a long-term and sustainable resource for the unfortunate children.

What exactly is a Short Term Mission Trip? Part 4 of 4

Have you at any time thought that you simply dreamed of being a part of something good and wonderful, yet had not been certain just how “the pieces of the puzzle” joined together? Often times that's the feeling any time choosing to get involved with a mission trip. However you may well be not sure on exactly how it all works. We hope this will be able to answer some questions you may have.

What If I Want to Go but I Can not Afford It?

Spending about two weeks in another country is usually not going to come cheap. But if God desires you to be there, then He will provide to get you there.

Pray about what God would like you to do, as well as where He desires you to go. Several people that have full-time jobs would love to take these opportunities and can also afford to do so, yet simply cannot spare the time, or perhaps cannot go since they have children or even some other restrictions. So if you genuinely wish to go, and cannot have the funds to go yourself, raise the money. We make an effort to provide fund raising tips and opportunities for each short term trip.

What Are the Benefits of Going on a Short-term Mission Trip?

It's ideal for your own personal spiritual life plus its amazing to observe God moving in another area and culture. Frequently whenever team members come back from their short term trip, they are really considerably more enthusiastic and passionate about living their faith out at home. Because their own eyes really are opened to God’s work around the world, the way they pray transforms. They become much more effective in their own personal community as well as church and they also obtain a broader vision for what God has the ability to do. Simply speaking, God becomes even bigger in our own eyes as we step out on a short term mission trip.

Do I Have to Be a Super Christian to Go?

No, actually all Christian believers ought to consider themselves as missionaries with regards to their mission field being their own neighborhood, or even their place of work, or perhaps their particular sports team. You do not have to be a super Christian, however you'll have to possess the right mental attitude towards God.  Follow the mission statement of the Lord Jesus, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." Luke 19:10

What exactly are Short Term Mission Trips?
A short term mission trip is commonly seven to two weeks in duration, however it may be longer, with individuals travelling to minister within a culture different from their own. The main focus of most of these trips should be to serve the group of people being visited, and probably do consist of evangelism, teaching, prayer, construction, or a mixture of these activities. It's an chance to share a person's gifts and talents with others and to receive from those of a different culture. Paul’s words for the Romans sums up the heart beat of short term missions when he writes that he strongly desires to see them in order that he “may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” (Romans 1:11-12)

Southwest Haiti Misson Trips Near Les Cayes Are Available! ...

Youth Quests International - Haiti Updates
Sharing the blessings of your help in supporting this ministry and the missionaries who
went out this year.

The Haitian projects Youth Quests International is involved with, along with your support, have current needs and prayer requests.  We wanted to share with you the future plans for these projects in this area, as well as, what has been accomplished through your assistance and prayers.

The previous team had worked on some crucial improvements for the teams who will be doing follow up work on several projects. They were involved in ministry to the local people as well. The Haiti missions team that arrived in the village near Torbeck on July 18th greatly appreciated all the preparation done for them. This second team worked on building the poultry business that will be the first step for a sustainable agriculture project for this ministry.

Additionally, both teams conducted some special programs with biblical teaching for the children and teens of the area, evangelized and held special services in the evenings.  The second team had the privilege of showing the Jesus Film in Creole and handing out tracts to the local people wherever they went.  With your help, YQI bought a generator for the ministry that was a great benefit for the cooks, the church with their evening services, the housing for the teams and, of course the Jesus Film presentations in the evenings.

Project Updates and Prayer Requests
Will you pray about the following needs? The dollar amounts mentioned are still needed for the projects.)
For donations go to: Youth Quests' Hope For Haiti

Water Well
While working there, we were able to talk with some government officials about drilling a well in preparation for the orphanage we are planning on building.  Even though they said that they only drill on government or public lands, they agreed to drill the well for a very reasonable $2000.00.  We are praising the Lord for this opportunity to obtain a good source of water for the orphanage and ministry.  Pray for the project to progress, continued cooperation, the doors to stay open and the much needed funds.

Poultry Business
The aim of this business is to support and assist the pastors to be more self-sustaining in working with the local people, as well as,  generating income for the operation of the orphanage.  As of right now, we are currently $2000 short on funds to get this poultry business fully up and running complete with facilities, equipment, feed and chicks.

Improvements To Homes
The crucial improvements included cleaning cement rubble out of a house that will be used to house teams when they come to work in this area and hand digging a well for clean water.  We are blessed to be able to use this home when we bring teams to this small village area.

Materials were bought for a special project to help out a Pastor, his family and a couple of orphans that will be living with him.  With your help, YQI bought the tin roofing to cover the half of the house where they lived that didn’t have a roof on it.  This roof was put up in time for the rainy season and is a greatly appreciated addition.

Orphanage Projection
We are currently in contact with a Christian man who has been building several homes in Haiti in cooperation with the Haitian government.  He has agreed to build the Haitian orphanage in this area employing local people and using good materials for the low cost of $15 per square foot!  Our goal is to start with a 2000 square foot facility that would only cost $30,000; then with the water available, the orphanage would be in a good position to be a blessing to many in that area.

Adoption in Progress
The orphans need hope and a future; currently it is our
opportunity to help an orphan girl be adopted into a Christian family in the USA.  The lawyers in the country have been working on the adoption. The family needs  another $3,000.00 to complete the adoption process.

Thank you so much for your interest in missions and the
assistance you have already given.  May the Lord richly bless you!

How To Get Involved!
You can get involved with Haiti short-term mission trips, work / humanitarian aid and evangelism teams by:

Haiti mission trip teams will fly to Port-Au-Prince, spend a short time in PAP then travel to the project area in Southwestern Haiti near Les Cayes. You will be working on various humanitarian aid projects throughout your stay including agriculture transformation, sustainable agriculture projects and improvements, evangelism and Biblical teaching to a group of youth and adults hungry for the Word. You will also have the privilege of evangelizing in the nearby areas around the village, bringing hope to the lost and being an encouragement for many others. There will be countless opportunities for ministry and spiritual mentoring in your leisure times and social activities.

What is a Church Missions Trip? What are the benefits for Church Mission Trips?

Short Term Mission Trips are exciting ways to get your Church Group involved and help people all over the world while experiencing a new culture while helping the missionaries on the mission field.  People from many age groups join together for a common goal on short term mission trips getting up close and personal with what God is doing around the world.  It's so awakening to go on short term mission trips because it sparks a passion for missions and giving.  What was Jesus’ mission statement? (Luke 19:10"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."   This is the very heart of missions.)  Many times the criticism against short term mission trips sounds so righteous and sanctimonious and yet it fails the test of judging the servant or service of another.  If you want to know the effectiveness of short term mission trips, check out I & II Thessalonians in the New Testament.

Some denominations have missions programs that will allow you to do a short-term mission program.  Many of the larger churches have short-term programs that will allow you to "try on" missions.  Meanwhile many church pastors and leaders are very busy ministering and feeding their congregation and their needs.  That is where an organization dedicated to church mission trips would greatly benefit the leadership of the church by working out all the time consuming details for your group.

Our Vision is to serve as a launching pad for churches and youth groups to send their people to be trained and sent out on short term mission trips around the world, fulfilling the great commission.  Church group mission trips are the best way to get your feet wet in international, world missions and the team members will feel like family by the end of the mission trip.  All of our short term missions trips, mission internships, missions training, and medical mission trips that we specifically promote are focused on this goal of taking the love of Christ to the unreached people groups of the world.

We would love for you to be a part of our mission's vision by joining in on a Christian mission trip or internship, by faithfully praying for the ministries and the people internationally, by adopting an unreached people group, or by helping to financially support missions work, send an individual on a youth mission trip or support for a youth group mission trip, supporting international missionaries.

For more information on Mission Trips for Church Groups please contact Youth Quests International.

Youth Quests International Domestic Missions Trip to the San Carlos Indian Reservation

Cutter Church, the San Carlos Indian Reservation project near Globe, AZ.;
current needs, prayer requests, as well as, future plans!

The team of 33, mostly teens, from Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in Texas, joining Youth Quests International, worked on some crucial and much needed improvements.  The church had leaks in the roof resulting in damage to the ceiling within the church. Funds raised for the project along with the church's finances and tribal donations worked together to purchase materials for the group to do the renovation. The group tore, literally, into the work with dust and debris flying.  Then putting a new roof on the church and new sheet rock on the interior ceiling in four days.  Some of the men of the church came alongside and helped with putting up and taping the ceiling, while the women brought water, ice and food for lunch for the whole group.

While we were there on Wednesday evening, we held a special service and ministered to the local people.   It was unique due to the fact of the inside of the church still a work in progress, we held the meeting outside in the parking lot! We have been asked to come back soon and  hold special meetings and youth rallies for three days.

Project Updates and Prayer Requests
(Will you pray about the following needs? The dollar amounts mentioned are still needed for the projects.) For donations go to:

Three Day Youth Rally and Special Meetings
The Pastor, Sister Fay talked about the need for ministering to the young people there on the reservation. She would like to hold a three day youth rally to help reach them. The testimonies given by the young people on Wednesday gave hope to many who attended the service. While we were there, we saw the need for ministry to the youth of the area.  It's our desire to be able to return and hold the special meetings. Please pray with us regarding the doors to open and the funds to come in for this need.

There are other improvements needed for the Cutter church. The heart of the Pastor is to fix the pulpit area and bathroom. Currently, the bathroom is in the front of the church  to the left of the pulpit. Her desire is to move it to a different location. In checking the building, the whole North side of the church needs siding as the plywood needs to be completely replaced. Please be in prayer with us for a work/ministry group for 2011!

2010 Project Testimonial
"I did get to see the church from a distance and that was it but from what I had seen the roofing looked really nice.  My sisters were telling me of how they would see a bus passing them in the morning and they would say..."there goes sisters project".  I also did get to talk with Carol Lewis the Co Pastor and she was all excited about everything.  I am so happy for Sister Faye and her congregation cause I am sure they have built lasting relationships with each other.  My aunt Margaret also told me that she got to meet and talk with you.  She had complimented you and your husband with high regards and she enjoyed everything." (From: Tammy Hill)

2010 Project Results
A call from Sis Fay from the Cutter church:
She said previously the church members were having a hard time getting together on getting the roof fixed. It had been fixed by someone 3 years ago who had put new roofing on over the old. It still leaked and had ruined the ceiling in many places. The people were also having a hard time raising money for the new roof as well. There was division among the people concerning how to take care of the problem. When we came, the people dropped their personal views on how to do things and became unified in helping up get it done. They have since began to work on getting the church done with better lighting, etc. She said we provided the encouragement they needed to work together on the church.

She said she needed the Word of encouragement that John gave her and has been getting rest in body and spirit.
